Librarians, help us stop the Russian occupiers!

On February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation launched a full-scale war with Ukraine. Putin's Russia cynically, in front of the whole world, gathered its troops on the Ukrainian border and, with the participation of its Belarusian henchmen, attacked peaceful sleeping Ukrainian cities, villages, ports and airports… The whole world condemned this barbaric attack. For the third day in a row, the Ukrainian army have been effectively fighting for their homeland from more than 100K hordes of Russian occupiers. Someone will ask – Can librarians help in any way? First of all – Do not be silent! Every voice of yours, every official statement of yours, every tweet… motivates and pushes other smart people to action!

In the post, I collected examples of support from librarians from around the world. Thank you friends! Please complete this list in the comments.

Prof. Dr. Sören Auer: “Personally and as director of TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology, I deeply condemn the war started by Russia against its peaceful, democratic neighbor Ukraine. As TIB we will stop all collaborations with Russia partners. Ukrainian researchers and members of the library community, we will happily provide shelter as TIB guest researchers”.

Kretinga District Municipality M. Valančius Public Library prepared these badges for people to take and pin out of solidarity with Ukraine.

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) stands in solidarity with our colleagues in Ukraine.

Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) extended solidarity and support for professional colleagues in Ukraine during the current military action by Russia.

Nicholas Poole, CILIP SEO: "Bloody hell. Looking at a message from the Ukraine Library Association concerning the cancellation of their forthcoming conference. It basically says, "We will reschedule just as soon as we have finished vanquishing our invaders". Ukrainian Librarians, I salute you!".

Real librarians work for readers with critical thinking, so librarians prepare special posts and thematic selections to help readers understand who Ukrainians are and why they are so desperately fighting for their freedom.

Many libraries around the world have written words of support on their pages.

Also, many libraries in the world had lit up blue and yellow in a symbol of solidarity with Ukraine.
This list will be updated...
